Geondallyeon Hosts '2024 Construction Industry New Year's Meeting'
Kim Sang-su, President of the Korea Federation of Construction Associations, stated on the 11th, "For the construction industry to accelerate the pace of economic recovery and make a dynamic leap as a creator, we all need to join forces."
President Kim said at the '2024 Construction Industry New Year Meeting' held at the Construction Hall in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in the afternoon, "It has become difficult to expect a groundbreaking quantitative expansion in the construction industry as in the past."
He evaluated, "Despite difficulties such as the impact of high interest rates, unstable international situations, raw material supply instability, and price increases, the construction industry has played an important role in both domestic demand and exports, including securing $30 billion in overseas construction orders for four consecutive years, construction investment accounting for 13% of GDP, and employment of 2.15 million people."
However, he emphasized that to secure sustainable growth momentum, it is necessary to establish an innovation foundation and for the industry to demonstrate self-purification capabilities.
President Kim said, "It is necessary to support government liquidity for real estate project financing (PF), establish advanced country-type win-win labor-management relations, and prepare autonomous construction safety measures," adding, "We must strengthen industrial competitiveness and secure future new growth engines."
He continued, "Unfair practices within the construction industry must be eliminated, and unqualified companies should be expelled from the market," pointing out, "In particular, we need to restore public trust lost due to poor construction quality at sites."
Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said in his congratulatory speech, "I hope the construction industry overcomes the crisis and develops further in the new year," and added, "The government will also do its best to be of help to the public and construction workers."
The New Year meeting proceeded with a New Year's address reflecting the challenges and resolutions of construction workers, New Year's greetings to encourage construction workers, and a New Year's rice cake cutting ceremony. About 700 people attended, including Minister Park Sang-woo, Kim Min-gi, Chairman of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, Assembly members Kim Byung-wook, Song Seok-jun, Heo Young, Jang Cheol-min, heads of construction organizations, and representatives of construction companies.
