Hybrid Tripled in 4 Years... Diesel Reduced to One-Third
The annual new car registration volume of hybrid vehicles surpassed 300,000 units for the first time. In contrast, diesel vehicles, which exceeded 400,000 units in 2019, decreased to just over 130,000 units.
On the 11th, the automotive market research firm Kaizyu Data Institute announced that it obtained these results by analyzing last year's domestic passenger car new registration status by fuel type.
According to the survey, the number of hybrid vehicle registrations last year was 309,164 units, an increase of 46.3% compared to the previous year. The share of hybrid vehicles among all newly registered cars also reached 22.7%. Last year was the first time annual hybrid vehicle registrations exceeded 300,000 units. Starting from 103,494 units in 2019, the number sharply increased, tripling in four years.
On the other hand, new diesel vehicle registrations sharply declined. They totaled 133,394 units, about 50,000 fewer than the previous year. Compared to 431,662 units in 2019, this represents a decrease to about one-third.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) fuel vehicles also decreased by 24.1% from the previous year, totaling 52,158 units.
Gasoline vehicles increased by more than 40,000 units from the previous year to 892,726 units, accounting for more than half (58.6%) of all newly registered cars. Electric vehicle registrations totaled 115,822 units, a decrease of about 6.5% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, among imported cars, gasoline vehicles accounted for the largest share at 61.7%, followed by electric vehicles (14.6%), diesel vehicles (12.6%), and hybrid vehicles (11.2%).
