A lavish royal wedding lasting ten days has become a hot topic in Brunei, a representative wealthy country in Southeast Asia.

On the 11th (local time), local media such as the Borneo Bulletin reported that the wedding ceremony of Prince Abdul Mateen (32), the fourth son of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, and his fianc?e Anisha Rosna Isa Kalebic was held at the Omar Ali Saifuddien Royal Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. On this day, the couple exchanged marriage vows and held a traditional royal wedding.

The wedding-related schedule for the couple began on the 7th and is planned to continue for ten days until the 16th. The highlight of this wedding event will be the banquet and wedding procession held at the Brunei Royal Palace on the 14th. The Istana Nurul Iman Palace, the venue for the banquet, is one of the largest palaces in the world with 1,788 rooms. It is known that many world leaders and celebrities, including Britain's Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton, as well as Indonesian President Joko Widodo, will attend the event on the 14th.

Born in 1991, Prince Mateen is sixth in line to the throne, so his chances of ascending are slim, but he enjoys great popularity due to his handsome appearance and career as a polo player. His Instagram followers number 2.5 million.

Prince Mateen graduated from King's College London and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK. He was active as a polo player and represented Brunei at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. Currently, he serves as a major in the Royal Brunei Air Force, working as a helicopter pilot, and frequently appears at international diplomatic events. Prince Mateen attended Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in the UK in 2022 and King Charles's coronation last year alongside his father, Sultan Bolkiah.

Brunei is a country located on the northwest coast of Borneo Island in the central Malay Archipelago. It was a British protectorate from 1888 until its independence in January 1984 and adopts an Islamic absolute hereditary monarchy. Although it is a small country with a population of only 450,000, natural gas and crude oil are produced off its coast, resulting in a per capita GDP of $36,000, the second highest in Southeast Asia after Singapore.

At 78 years old this year, Sultan Bolkiah has been on the throne for 55 years since his accession in 1968, making him the longest-reigning living monarch in the world. He owns offshore oil fields in Brunei, with official assets amounting to $30 billion (approximately 39.5 trillion KRW). Recently, it was reported that he is a car collector who owns 7,000 luxury cars worth about 6 trillion KRW, attracting considerable attention.
