Formation of a Cooperative Body Reflecting the Will of Residents, Active Response to Education Development Special Zone
On the 11th, Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, formed the 'Uljin-gun Education Development Special Zone Promotion Cooperation Group' and held an appointment ceremony and project plan briefing session to actively respond to the Ministry of Education's designation and application for the Education Development Special Zone pilot area.
The cooperation group is co-chaired by Son Byeong-bok, the head of Uljin-gun, and Hwang Seok-su, the head of Uljin Office of Education, and is broadly composed of professors from three universities (Yeungnam University, Dongguk University WISE Campus, Kyungil University), representatives of local elementary, middle, and high schools, and parent representatives from each school in the area to gather diverse opinions for the innovation of public education in Uljin-gun.
The Education Development Special Zone is a project under the government's regional balanced development policy, where local governments, education offices, universities, regional companies, and public institutions cooperate comprehensively to support public education innovation, nurture local talent, and improve residential conditions.
The Ministry of Education plans to designate pilot areas for the Education Development Special Zone in March this year through a public contest.
After the appointment ceremony, based on the prepared draft plan, discussions were held on ▲ operation plans for Neulbom School ▲ creation of excellent models for autonomous public high schools ▲ support projects for school complex facilities ▲ curriculum development plans to select talent desired by companies through linkage between large corporations in the national industrial complex and high schools and universities ▲ university attraction and special admissions ▲ and measures to prevent the outflow of local talent by improving regional residential conditions.
Uljin-gun signed an agreement with the Gyeongbuk Provincial Superintendent of Education on January 23 and plans to focus administrative efforts to be designated as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone in March after deliberation by the Local Era Committee in February.
In addition, regarding the Education Development Special Zone, an idea contest will be held until the end of January, allowing anyone to easily submit good ideas via the internet or mail to collect diverse opinions from the public.
Son Byeong-bok, the head of the county, stated, “Uljin is seeking various ways to improve education and residential conditions to secure excellent talent for the national nuclear hydrogen industrial complex. In an era of regional extinction due to population decline, the designation of the Education Development Special Zone is essential as a way to contribute to solving the low birthrate problem through the development of local public education and further achieve national balanced development.”
