Maston Investment Management, Seminar on Eco-Friendly Building Certification and Evaluation

Maston Investment Management announced on the 11th that it held an in-house seminar on eco-friendly building certification and evaluation to welcome the new year.

The seminar, held the previous day in Maston Investment Management's conference room, discussed the significance of ESG in the real estate asset management industry and the importance of eco-friendly building certification and evaluation.

Song Woo-jin, ESG LAB Research Fellow at Maston Investment Management, who was the speaker, explained the green premium expected when receiving eco-friendly building certification, such as an increase in office rental fees. He also presented the benefits of eco-friendly building certification and evaluation, including ▲ease of fund establishment ▲reduction in borrowing costs ▲ease of sale ▲increase in rental fees ▲increase in asset value ▲reduction in operating costs.

Research Fellow Song Woo-jin said, “Although there is some backlash against ESG, eco-friendly building evaluation and certification such as GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) and LEED, a global eco-friendly building certification system, are recommended from an investment perspective. We must make multifaceted efforts to obtain a green premium rather than a brown discount.”

Research Fellow Song Woo-jin holds a master's degree in architecture. After working at major construction companies and developers, he joined Maston Investment Management in 2021. He is recognized for his expertise in eco-friendly building evaluation and certification, including GRESB and LEED.

Meanwhile, Maston Investment Management received the highest rating of ‘5-star’ from the globally prestigious GRESB last year. Donuimun D-Tower ranked 5th overall in evaluation scores among unlisted offices in the Asia region. It also received the highest rating of ‘Platinum’ in the LEED category.
