Presiding Over the Luncheon Meeting of the National Economic Advisory Council
President Yoon Suk-yeol will meet with experts on public welfare and the economy on the 11th to seek their advice. This schedule reflects President Yoon's third year in office policy direction to ensure that the public can feel the economic recovery.
On the morning of the same day, President Yoon is expected to preside over a luncheon meeting of the National Economic Advisory Council at the Yongsan Presidential Office. The National Economic Advisory Council is a constitutional body established to discuss important economic and related policy formulation and to advise the president. President Yoon serves as the chairperson, and Professor Emeritus Lee In-ho of Seoul National University serves as the vice-chairperson.
This meeting between President Yoon and the National Economic Advisory Council comes about a year after the 12th Emergency Economic and Public Welfare Meeting and the 1st plenary session of the National Economic Advisory Council held in December 2022. President Yoon is expected to seek advice from attendees not only on industrial and demographic issues but also on policies related to the public welfare economy. Although the national economy has returned to a recovery trend, supported by strong semiconductor exports, there are still concerns that ordinary citizens and socially vulnerable groups find it difficult to feel the effects.
Earlier, President Yoon delivered messages in his New Year's address and Cabinet meetings emphasizing the first year of promoting three major reforms in labor, education, and pensions, easing tax burdens on multiple homeowners, managing inflation, and handling corporate insolvencies. Since the beginning of this year, he has carried out four public welfare economic schedules, including the opening ceremony of the securities and derivatives market, the 1st and 2nd public welfare forums (on public welfare and housing), and visits to aging apartments in the first-generation new towns.
President Yoon plans to continue listening to diverse voices from the public through ministry work reports in the form of public welfare forums. A senior official from the Presidential Office stated, "The goal is not to listen to policies or public voices in predetermined sectors, but for all ministries to deliberate and reflect policies that all citizens can empathize with in the field," adding, "We will continue our efforts for public welfare and immediately consider the parts that each ministry or agency must support."
President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Baeksong Village Complex 5 in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 10th, inspecting the apartment underground parking lot together with Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, representatives of residents, and representatives of the Reconstruction Promotion Preparation Committee.
