Changes in Seongdong-gu's Policies in 2024?

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will launch 47 new projects in five areas?economy and jobs, welfare and health, safety and transportation, culture and sports, and daily life and environment?to welcome the new year.

Starting in March, young single-person households who move to Seongdong-gu and become the head of their household for the first time will receive up to 200,000 KRW for purchasing daily necessities. Young people aged 19 to 39 who have been registered residents in Seongdong-gu for more than three months and meet both the criteria of being homeless and having a median income below 120% will be eligible for a one-time support of up to 200,000 KRW for daily necessities.

Various projects will also be promoted to ease the burden of childbirth and child-rearing. First, automatic discounts for multi-child families will be implemented for parking lot usage in Seongdong-gu. From February, after an initial one-time pre-registration, multi-child families, along with compact cars, low-emission, and eco-friendly vehicles, will automatically receive parking discounts.

Parental allowance payments, which were previously 700,000 KRW for infants aged 0 and 350,000 KRW for infants aged 1, will be increased to 1,000,000 KRW for 0-year-olds and 500,000 KRW for 1-year-olds starting this year.

Additionally, the first meeting voucher, which was equally applied to all newborns, will be expanded. The first child will receive 2,000,000 KRW (unchanged), and the second child and beyond will receive 3,000,000 KRW.

Care-based projects that comprehensively ensure residents' safety will also be implemented. On January 3, Seongdong-gu became the first in the nation to enact an ordinance supporting the installation of ramps for people with disabilities, ensuring accessibility to neighborhood living facilities for mobility-impaired individuals. Starting in March, ramp installation support will be extended to small-scale facilities not subject to mandatory installation under the Act on Convenience Promotion for People with Disabilities. Eligible facilities include those established before the Act's enactment (April 11, 1998), facilities under 300㎡ floor area before the enforcement ordinance revision (May 1, 2022), and facilities under 50㎡ floor area after the ordinance revision.

The residents' accident insurance system, previously divided into daily life safety insurance and bicycle insurance, will be integrated into daily life safety insurance from March 14. The insurance service window will be unified, and the bicycle insurance will remove the requirement for a diagnosis period of four weeks or more, allowing claims without a diagnosis period. The Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center, a customized safety experience education center representing Seongdong-gu, will also offer regular self-defense training starting this year.

A new allowance for improving the treatment of essential workers will be introduced. From the new year, care workers and disability activity supporters will receive 200,000 KRW once a month, and village bus drivers will receive 300,000 KRW once a year.

Other changes include expanding the youth experiential learning card support amount to 100,000 KRW each in the first and second half of the year, up from 50,000 KRW in the first half and 100,000 KRW in the second half. The large household waste easy disposal app service “Jiguhada,” which enables quick processing from disposal reporting to collection, refund, and complaints, is scheduled to be launched in January. Additionally, the “Juchanecut” mobile web map search service, which allows checking remaining parking spaces and congestion levels within Seongdong-gu, will be implemented in May.
