Park Jung-won, Chairman of Doosan Group, visited the world's largest home appliance and IT exhibition CES 2024 for the first time in four years. Chairman Park said he would explore opportunities to link AI with industry, the key theme of this exhibition.
On the 10th (local time), Chairman Park visited the Doosan booth located in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) in Nevada, USA, saying, "I am closely observing how far AI development has come and what changes it will bring to traditional manufacturing," and added, "I will look into the connection between AI technology and our business to find new business opportunities."
He continued, "AI technology is not exclusive to IT companies," and said, "As demonstrated this time, Doosan already possesses AI-applied technologies and products in collaborative robots and construction machinery sectors, with strong competitiveness."
At this exhibition, Doosan Robotics and Doosan Bobcat attracted much attention by showcasing robot solutions that learn and make decisions autonomously using AI technology, as well as unmanned and electric compact heavy equipment. Doosan Bobcat unveiled the unmanned and electric articulated tractor 'AT450X' for the first time, a product that uses AI to detect obstacles and autonomously change routes or distinguish between weeds and crops, navigating narrow and steep vineyards. Doosan Robotics introduced AI-applied products such as the collaborative robot solution ‘Oscar the Sorter,’ which autonomously sorts recyclables by type, and a collaborative robot that analyzes facial expressions to serve matching cocktails.
Doosan Enerbility, which is solidifying its position as a global SMR foundry (production-specialized company) in the small modular reactor (SMR) market based on proven manufacturing capabilities in the large nuclear power plant market, exhibited an SMR scale model for the first time at CES. Observing the SMR scale model displayed by Doosan Enerbility, Chairman Park said, "As AI advances and data center installations increase, power demand will naturally rise significantly, and next-generation energy sources like SMR can be a good alternative."
After touring the Doosan booth, Chairman Park focused on visiting domestic companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, as well as global mobility-related companies including Mercedes-Benz, Mobileye, and Magna. At these companies, he examined the latest technology trends in autonomous driving and electronic components related to Doosan’s semiconductor and electronic materials businesses.
At the exhibition halls of heavy equipment companies competing globally with Doosan Bobcat, he reviewed the development status of battery-based electrified equipment and automation and intelligence technologies. At the telecommunications and semiconductor booths, he confirmed high-performance, low-power computing technologies and the blueprint for a hyper-connected ecosystem, which will be the foundation of the AI era. He also reviewed the latest energy solution technologies for carbon emission reduction and each company’s strategies for the circular economy.
Chairman Park emphasized, "This is the first large-scale exhibition where we can check the current status of AI across all industries and products since the emergence of generative AI, and I was able to gain insights useful for future management," adding, "We must actively utilize new technologies and innovate to provide safer and smarter working environments and contribute to creating a cleaner world."
