A man in his 50s who fled after hitting and killing a pedestrian has been apprehended. Drugs were also found in his vehicle, prompting a police investigation.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Gimpo Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that they have arrested a man in his 50s, identified as A, on charges including hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.

A is accused of driving a Grandeur vehicle on a two-lane one-way road in Sau-dong, Gimpo City, around 5:50 a.m. on the 4th, hitting a woman in her 50s, identified as B, who was crossing the road, causing her death, and then fleeing the scene. B was transported to a hospital by the 119 emergency medical team after the accident but passed away.

The police found a substance suspected to be drugs inside the vehicle that A abandoned and fled from. Upon identity verification, A was found to be a wanted person under charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

Through CCTV analysis, the police determined that A escaped in another vehicle and began pursuing him. Three days after the hit-and-run, on the 7th, A was arrested in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province. A preliminary drug test conducted after the arrest reportedly showed a positive reaction for narcotics.

The police have requested the National Forensic Service to analyze the suspected drug substances found in A’s vehicle and A’s hair samples, and plan to verify whether A caused the accident under the influence of drugs.
