Chairperson Kim Bomi: "I Will Fight Against Unjust Youth Political Oppression"

Amid the proposal of a no-confidence resolution against Kim Bomi, chairperson of the Gangjin County Council in Jeollanam-do, attention is focused on whether an unprecedented situation will occur where the no-confidence resolution against the chairperson is passed for the first time since the opening of the Gangjin County Council.

According to the county council on the 10th, on the 5th, six council members of the Gangjin County Council (Yu Kyung-sook, Jeong Jung-seop, Yoon Young-nam, Wi Seong-sik, Seo Soon-seon, Kim Chang-ju) proposed a no-confidence resolution against Chairperson Kim Bomi.

The proposed no-confidence resolution is scheduled to be submitted and processed at the first plenary session of the 296th extraordinary meeting on the 16th. It will be decided by the majority of the total members (5 members), and if the no-confidence agenda is passed at the plenary session, the chairperson will be dismissed from the position immediately.

The reason for the no-confidence resolution against the chairperson is limited to Article 62 of the Local Autonomy Act, which states "in cases of violating laws or regulations, or failing to perform duties without justifiable reasons."

Chairperson Kim explained, "This no-confidence resolution does not present any facts of legal violations or failure to perform duties," and defined it as oppression against the political innovation will to make the council a citizen-oriented council that communicates with residents.

Kim Bomi said, "I have neither violated laws nor neglected my duties, which are grounds for the no-confidence resolution," and added, "I believe the truth will be judged by the residents."

She continued, "I ran for office with the ambition to realize clean and transparent politics and was re-elected with overwhelming support from residents. As the youngest female chairperson in local councils, I have worked to develop the council into a model advanced council that communicates with residents," and raised her voice, saying, "This no-confidence resolution against the chairperson is an unjustified oppression of youth politics and a direct challenge to efforts for council advancement."

She also stated, "The reason I have been able to endure until now and the reason I must endure going forward is because of the residents who have stood with me. I will fight against unjustified removal and unfair oppression and stand proudly before the residents again."

Meanwhile, Chairperson Kim Bomi plans to hold a press conference at 2 p.m. on the 16th in the large conference room of the county office, where she will issue a statement on the unfairness and irrationality of the resolution.
