Presidential Office: "Will Smoothly Lead Multilateral and Public Diplomacy"
Kang In-seon, the Overseas Public Relations Secretary of the Presidential Office, was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on the 10th. He is a journalist who experienced the Iraq War. With a wide domestic and international network, he is expected to achieve results in multilateral and public diplomacy.
Deputy Minister Kang was born in Seoul in 1964 and graduated from Seoul Girls' High School and the Department of Diplomacy at Seoul National University. After attending graduate school at Seoul National University, he graduated from the Department of Public Administration at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in the United States.
He began his career as a journalist in 1990 at Monthly Chosun and joined Chosun Ilbo in 2001. He served as Chosun Ilbo's Washington correspondent, head of the international department, editorial writer, and Washington bureau chief.
He also worked as a war correspondent during the Iraq War. Based on that experience, he published the book "Flowers Bloom Even on the Desert Battlefield" in 2003. He received the Choi Eun-hee Female Journalist Award and the Choi Byung-woo Journalist Memorial International Reporting Award. He was also awarded the "Don Oberdorfer Journalist Award" by the U.S. Embassy in Korea, given to journalists who contributed to strengthening the Korea-U.S. alliance.
After President Yoon Suk-yeol was elected, Kang was selected as the foreign press spokesperson for the Presidential Transition Committee. He then served as the presidential spokesperson and the Overseas Public Relations Secretary of the Presidential Office, concurrently serving as the foreign press spokesperson.
Lee Kwan-seop, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office, said about Deputy Minister Kang, "As a journalist specializing in international relations, he is well-versed in international affairs and possesses overseas field experience and a diverse network, so we expect him to smoothly lead multilateral and public diplomacy."
