The mandarin duck, Natural Monument No. 327, is a migratory bird that visits Gwanghallu Garden every year to spend the winter and leaves in early spring. However, in recent years, they have stayed, laid eggs, and hatched chicks in Gwanghallu Garden, and now their number has grown to about a hundred, becoming a famous feature of Gwanghallu Garden along with the carp.
Mandarin ducks have long symbolized a hundred years of marital bliss and are also a modern symbol of marital harmony, making them a bird that fits well with Gwanghallu Garden, the stage of the love story between Seong Chunhyang and Lee Doryeong.
A city official said, “Gwanghallu Garden offers unique attractions throughout the four seasons, and we will strive to ensure that tourists visiting Gwanghallu Garden can create special memories and enjoy seasonal sights.”
