President Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Cho Tae-yeol as Minister of Foreign Affairs on the 10th, the Blue House announced.
This came just one day after the confirmation hearing report for Minister Cho was adopted.
Minister Cho graduated from Seoul National University Law School and began his diplomatic career in 1979. He has served as Director of the Trade Division 2 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (formerly Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade), Economic Counselor at the Embassy in the United States, Director of Trade Policy Planning, Director of Regional Trade, Deputy Ambassador at the Permanent Mission in Geneva, and Trade Negotiation Coordinator (Vice Minister level).
He also served as the 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2016 and as Ambassador to the United Nations from 2016 to 2019.
He is also well known as the third son of the late poet Cho Ji-hoon, who left behind poems such as "Seungmu" and "Nakhwa".
