60,000 KRW Veterans' Honor Allowance Payment, Expanded Funeral Supplies Support Scope... For Independence Patriots, National Patriots, War Veterans, Special Mission Patriots, 5·18 Democratic Patriots, and Agent Orange Sequelae Patients
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) will expand veterans' welfare for national veterans in 2024.
Guro-gu has steadily expanded veterans' welfare by revising the Ordinance on the Treatment and Support for National Veterans in Guro-gu, Seoul in 2018 and 2021. In 2018, it began providing veterans' honor allowances, and in 2021, it promoted support for funeral supplies for their bereaved families.
This year, the Guro-gu veterans' honor allowance paid to national veterans increased by 10,000 KRW from the previous 50,000 KRW to 60,000 KRW. Additionally, the range of funeral supply support items for bereaved families upon the death of a national veteran has been expanded compared to last year, offering more options.
Funeral supply support includes basic provisions such as Guro-gu condolence banners, convenience items for bereaved families, and funeral directors. Optional items include three-tier condolence wreaths, floral tributes and portrait baskets, and funeral managers.
National veterans include independence patriots, national merit recipients, war veterans, special mission merit recipients, May 18 Democratic Movement merit recipients, and patients with Agent Orange aftereffects. To receive welfare support provided by the district for national veterans and their families, the national veteran’s address must be registered in Guro-gu.
Applications for the veterans' honor allowance can be made by visiting the local community service center with the national veterans registration card and a copy of the bankbook. However, for funeral supply support, veterans eligible for compensation are excluded from support, and bereaved families can apply by phone during the funeral period.
For detailed information regarding support for national veterans, please contact the Welfare Policy Division of Guro-gu Office.
A Guro-gu official stated, “Without the patriots who dedicated themselves to the nation, today’s Republic of Korea would not exist,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to provide veterans' welfare for the patriots.”
