'Lee Jae-myung Attacker' Identity Not Disclosed... Transferred to Prosecution on the Morning of the 10th (Comprehensive)

The police have decided not to disclose the personal information of Kim Mo (67), the suspect arrested on charges of attempted murder for wielding a weapon with the intent to kill Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea.

The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Personal Information Disclosure Committee held a meeting on the afternoon of the 9th and determined that revealing Kim's face, name, and age to the public does not meet the legal requirements for personal information disclosure.

The seven committee members attending the meeting discussed the matter and voted anonymously.

As a result, it was reported that the number of members in favor of disclosing the personal information did not exceed two-thirds of the attendees.

The Personal Information Disclosure Committee is composed of at least seven members, with at least half being external personnel.

According to the current Special Act on the Punishment of Specific Violent Crimes, if conditions such as cruelty, significant damage, sufficient evidence to believe a crime was committed, the public's right to know, and public interest are met, the suspect's face, name, and age can be disclosed.

A representative of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "Details about the attendees, discussions, and reasons for the decision are all confidential and cannot be disclosed."

Kim was arrested at the scene after stabbing Lee in the neck with a weapon around 10:50 a.m. on the 2nd, when Lee visited the Daehang Observatory in Gadeokdo, Gangseo-gu, Busan.

It was revealed that since last year, Kim had followed Lee six times, conducted prior reconnaissance of Lee's visit locations, and meticulously planned the crime by modifying the weapon.

Meanwhile, the police plan to transfer Kim to the prosecution on the morning of the 10th on charges of attempted murder.
