‘Tourism Dure’ is a policy project that supports local resident communities in directly starting and operating tourism businesses with unique regional characteristics in fields such as accommodation, food and beverage, travel, and experiences. Since its launch in 2013, approximately 180 Tourism Dure PDs have been selected nationwide, discovering a total of 901 local resident businesses.

A total of 80 applicants from 46 local governments applied for this year’s Tourism Dure PD recruitment, demonstrating high interest in the project. Multiple applicants could apply per region, but only one final candidate is selected per region. The new project areas were automatically determined based on the selection of Tourism Dure PDs.

The areas selected as Tourism Dure project regions this year are ▲Jung-gu, Incheon ▲Nam-gu, Gwangju ▲Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do ▲Suyeong-gu, Busan ▲Dong-gu, Ulsan ▲Uiseong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do ▲Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do ▲Haman-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, totaling 8 locations.

The newly selected Tourism Dure PDs will play a role in discovering local resident communities and closely supporting them from the planning stage to grow into self-sustaining resident tourism businesses.

To this end, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will support capacity-building education for Tourism Dure PDs and resident business development activities for up to five years, and provide startup education, consulting, and market development support to the discovered tourism businesses.

Kim Jung-taek, head of the Tourism Dure division at KTO, stated, “Tourism Dure PDs were selected with an emphasis on their ability to discover sustainable resident businesses based on a deep understanding of their regions,” adding, “KTO plans to continuously support the Tourism Dure project so that it can contribute to revitalizing local tourism and the regional economy.”

Yong Ho-seong, Director of Tourism Industry Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “The Tourism Dure project has reached its 12th year as a policy model for sustainable tourism industry,” and added, “We plan to support the virtuous cycle where residents create unique local tourism content and tourists’ local spending returns to the residents, further strengthening this process.”
