Exhibition Commemorating the Reopening of Go Hee-dong Art Museum, Featuring Various Eastern and Western Paintings to Reflect on Chun-gok Go Hee-dong's Artistic Career
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) is holding free exhibitions for residents at Mugaewon (5ga-gil 2, Changuimun-ro) and the Jongno-gu Hoheedong Art Museum (40, Changdeokgung 5-gil).
First, at Mugaewon, a traditional cultural space in Buam-dong, the exhibition "The Beginning of Change, Recording Jongno Modern" will be on display until March 31.
It covers the social and cultural changes in Jongno during the Enlightenment period and features serialized articles co-produced by the Jongno Cultural Foundation and JoongAng Ilbo.
Additionally, eight video works related to Jongno Modern are being screened to help visitors better understand Jongno Modern. The archive consists of eight videos, including "Riding the Tram through Jongno Streets," capturing the streets of Jongno; "Jongno, the Beginning of Modern Fashion," about the start of modern hanbok; and "Jongno's Theater Culture, Panorama," highlighting the cradle of modern culture.
At the Jongno-gu Hoheedong Art Museum, the exhibition "Touching Modern: Hoheedong, Pioneer of Modern Painting" is held until April 30 to commemorate the third anniversary of its reopening.
This exhibition looks back on the artistic career of Chunggok Hoheedong, Korea's first Western-style painter and a pioneer of modern painting, showcasing many of his Eastern and Western paintings.
The exhibition highlights Hoheedong, who opened a new chapter in Korean art from tradition to modernity, and reveals collected works acquired since the museum's reopening, receiving positive responses from visitors.
