Warm Winter Fundraising Surpasses 1.3 Billion Won? 92-Year-Old Kim Hee-su Donates 20 Million Won, etc.
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is experiencing a heartwarming wave of donations through the ‘2024 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign,’ which runs until February 14.
The ‘Warm Winter Campaign’ is a donation movement aimed at helping low-income residents in the area, carried out in cooperation with related organizations such as the district office, the Community Chest of Korea, and the Dongjak Welfare Foundation.
In this regard, a story warming the cold winter was shared. On January 22, 92-year-old elder Kim Hee-su, living in Sadang 4-dong, Dongjak-gu, visited the local community center and donated 20 million won in love sponsorship funds.
Despite his difficulty walking, the elder visited together with his children and personally handed over the donation, saying, “I hope this will be used for low-income elderly living alone and single-parent families in the area.”
Additionally, Bukwang Pharmaceutical and Nongshim, headquartered in Dongjak-gu, along with various organizations and residents, have shared warmth through acts of sharing, raising a total of 1.36 billion won so far, surpassing the target amount of 1.3 billion won.
The donated funds and goods will be fully used to support neighbors in need, such as basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and marginalized crisis households.
Along with this, the district is implementing various policies to provide thorough support for vulnerable groups left in welfare blind spots.
Since August last year, the number of Dongjak Welfare Cars for transportation-vulnerable groups in the area has been doubled to a total of eight vehicles, operating at an average interval of 30 minutes, and through last year’s elder home visit oriental medicine care project, more than 85 low-income elderly households were supported.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “We thank the residents and organizations who have shown warmth to neighbors in desperate need of help,” and added, “We will continue to discover support projects for vulnerable groups and continuously grow ‘Dongjak-style welfare.’”
