"Creating a Proud Jungnang Together with 400,000 Jungnang Residents"

Welcoming the Year of the Dragon 2024, Ryoo Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, and residents gathered in one place to pledge a vibrant leap forward for the greater development of Jungnang-gu.

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryoo Kyung-gi) held the ‘2024 New Year Greeting Meeting’ at 3 p.m. on the 8th in the basement auditorium of Jungnang-gu Office, marking a strong start. The event was organized as a time to exchange New Year greetings with about 600 residents and to present the direction and vision for the district administration in 2024.

The event proceeded in the order of a congratulatory performance, the mayor’s New Year address, New Year’s wishes from key figures, viewing a video containing the hopes of Jungnang residents for the New Year, and a commemorative photo session.

Last year, Jungnang-gu devoted efforts across various fields such as education, economy, culture, welfare, and housing to realize the slogan of the 8th elected term, ‘My Pride, Our Jungnang.’

As a result, the district achieved remarkable growth in various areas including ▲the first-ever budget surpassing 1 trillion won since its establishment ▲2nd place in Seoul for education expense subsidies ▲1st place in low-rise residential housing development projects ▲A grade for four consecutive years in natural disaster safety evaluations ▲top grade for three consecutive times in pledge fulfillment evaluations ▲7th place in resident happiness index.

In his New Year’s address, Mayor Ryoo Kyung-gi stated, “In 2024, Jungnang-gu will once again set a budget of 1.071 trillion won and continue the achievements of 5 years and 6 months from the 7th and 8th elected terms in education, culture, economy, urban development, and welfare,” presenting four major visions and goals by sector.

First, the district announced its goal to become ‘Jungnang, the Best Public Education City.’ To improve the educational environment, the education budget will be increased to 12 billion won, and educational infrastructure such as the 2nd Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center, Astronomy Science Center, Youth Culture and Arts Creation Center, and the 2nd Jungnang Media Center will be expanded. The joy of lifelong learning will also be enhanced through programs like reading 1,000 books before school and 1,000 books in elementary school.

Second, the district expressed its ambition to make the urban landscape more pleasant and focus its capabilities on housing development to dramatically change Jungnang-gu’s skyline. Efforts will be made to ensure the smooth progress of long-awaited projects cherished by residents, such as the relocation of SH Corporation headquarters, Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town, Jungnang Fashion Support Center, GTX Sangbong Station Complex Transfer Center, and the Myeonmok Line light rail. Currently, with 23 housing development sites?the largest number and area in Seoul?development is underway, and the district plans to improve aging housing to create a better living city.

Alongside this, Mayor Ryoo emphasized moving forward vigorously as a cultural and historical city where residents can enjoy Jungnang-gu’s proud culture and history. Through tree planting and creating barrier-free paths, Mangwoo History and Culture Park will be developed into the nation’s top attraction. The opening of Bonghwa Mountain Onggi Theme Experience Center and the creation of the Sky Forest Trail along Yongma Mountain’s perimeter trail will be promoted. The ‘Seoul Rose Festival,’ the most beautiful festival in Seoul with ten million blooming roses, will also be revitalized with diverse attractions and activities to become even more beloved by residents.

He also did not forget the promise to make Jungnang-gu the warmest city in Seoul through welfare enhancement. The district allocates 60% of its total budget to welfare, expanding jobs for seniors and people with disabilities, increasing support for senior centers, opening the Hwarang Village Senior Center and indoor playground, and implementing various welfare projects to fill the city with warmth.

Mayor Ryoo Kyung-gi said, “In the New Year, we will continue to uphold Jungnang-gu’s high status, ranked 7th in happiness index and having entered the 1 trillion won budget era. Together with 400,000 Jungnang residents, we will join hands to powerfully soar as a city excelling in education, culture, and economy, a warm city where children are happy and elders are respected, and a pleasant and livable city. In 2024, we will continue to listen to residents’ voices on the ground and do our best to make Jungnang a proud place where each resident’s life shines even brighter.”
