The National Time-Selected Public Officials Union (Siseonje Nojo) affiliated with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Public Officials Labor Union Federation delivered a petition to Yong Hye-in, a lawmaker from the Basic Income Party, demanding the abolition of time-selected public official recruitment and the integration of time-selected converted public officials.
According to Yong's office on the 8th, the information briefing session held on the 6th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building main conference room was attended by Siseonje Nojo, the 10.29 Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families Council, Moms for Politics, the Republic of Korea Bereaved Families of Fallen Military and Police Officers Association, the National Environmental Labor Union, and the Seoul Disability Discrimination Abolition Solidarity, among others.
At the event, Jeong Seong-hye, chairperson of Siseonje Nojo, delivered the 'Petition for the Abolition of Time-Selected Public Official Recruitment and Integration with Converted Public Officials.' Chairperson Jeong explained, "Time-selected public officials are general public officials, but due to their shorter working hours, they continue to face discrimination such as restrictions on transfers and cross-transfers among time-selected public officials," adding, "We decided to deliver the petition to Lawmaker Yong."
Kim Hwang-woo, secretary general of Siseonje Nojo, stated, “Since the introduction of time-selected public officials in 2013, due to restrictions on time-selection rights, unpaid labor, operational discrimination compared to part-time workers in the private sector, and discrimination among converted public officials under the same higher laws, 40% of appointed personnel have resigned or declined appointments. As of the end of 2022, 3,610 are working, with a 50% resignation rate in local government positions,” adding, “It is time for the government to make a decisive decision.”
Ten people, including Chairperson Jeong, attended the delivery ceremony.
