Silver Award in Investment Attraction · Excellence Award in Job Creation

Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, was recognized for its efforts in attracting investment and creating jobs to promote regional economic growth, winning the ‘Grand Prize’ along with a ‘Triple Crown’ in the comprehensive evaluation of the ‘2023 Korea Regional Economy Awards’ hosted by the Korean Regional Economic Association and the Korea Regional Economic Research Institute.

At the Korea Regional Economy Awards, held for the first time in 2023, Goryeong-gun was awarded ‘1st place nationwide in the Grand Prize category,’ ‘Silver Prize in the Investment Attraction category,’ and ‘Excellence Award in the Job Creation category,’ which can be seen as external recognition of the value of young and dynamic Goryeong-gun overcoming the crisis of regional extinction.

In this evaluation, Goryeong-gun received high scores in the comprehensive evaluation by providing customized jobs for local youth through the Youth Job/Startup Support Center and by aggressively attracting investment through a dedicated investment attraction department, including attracting eco-friendly clean energy power plant investments and developing the Wolseong General Industrial Complex.

In this regard, Goryeong-gun had previously achieved excellent results by winning the Best Performance Award for Job Creation in Gyeongbuk Province and the Excellence Award for Investment Attraction last year.

County Governor Namcheol Lee said, “Our efforts to create ‘an investment-friendly city and a hopeful city for youth, Goryeong’ have borne good fruit during these challenging times both domestically and internationally,” adding, “We will continue to steadily push forward ongoing projects to become a young and dynamic Goryeong-gun that overcomes the crisis of regional extinction as a hinterland city of the Daegu area and create sustainable growth engines.”

The Korea Regional Economy Awards are jointly hosted by the Korean Regional Economic Association and the Korea Regional Economic Research Institute. They evaluate nine indicators including job creation, investment attraction, and local prices through sectional and comprehensive evaluations based on objective data disclosed by Statistics Korea, the Korea Customs Service, and others, selecting outstanding local governments by category among 228 basic local governments.
