Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will operate a bicycle healing shop managed by the district office as a new project this year to promote the use of everyday bicycles and create an eco-friendly green city.
In particular, to enable local residents to use bicycles as a primary means of transportation, the shop will provide free repair services for broken bicycles and basic maintenance, and offer rental services for strollers and other equipment to allow riding with children and pets, aiming to activate bicycle leisure activities.
On the 8th, Nam-gu announced, "Starting from March, we will directly operate a bicycle healing shop to provide policy support for everyday bicycles and shared bicycles running through the city," adding, "Experts will be stationed at the bicycle healing shop to offer various services."
The bicycle healing shop is a facility that offers free inspections for bicycles needing basic maintenance and provides rental services for bicycle strollers and trailers for the convenience of bicycle users.
Nam-gu has prepared a base space for the bicycle healing shop next to the parking lot on the first floor of the annex building of the Comprehensive Government Complex and will operate it from March to the end of November, opening four times a week from Tuesday to Friday, except during the peak heat period in July and August and disaster risk periods such as typhoons.
The reason for establishing the bicycle healing shop near the district office is to provide accessibility convenience for urban bicycle users and because bicycle hub terminals operate at key points along the Gwangjucheon and Yeongsangang bicycle paths during the bicycle season from spring to autumn.
The bicycle healing shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Users can access free services for puncture repairs and simple parts replacement, and can also rent strollers and trailers.
However, maintenance services for major damages such as frame and tire breakage that incur high costs will not be provided.
Additionally, Nam-gu plans to increase bicycle usage by placing more shared bicycles at local administrative welfare centers within the district.
A Nam-gu official stated, "We will do our best to discover excellent policies like the bicycle healing shop to increase the number of residents using bicycles as a means of transportation."
