Announcement of AI Governance Establishment Plan
SK Telecom announced on the 7th that it will establish AI governance (decision-making system) to leap forward as a global artificial intelligence (AI) company.
In order to secure the reliability and safety of AI, the company decided to proactively introduce an AI decision-making system into its management. SKT plans to promote AI governance in three directions: ▲establishing AI governance standards ▲specifying dedicated organizations and roles ▲establishing processes.
First, by reviewing domestic and international AI-related laws, regulations, and global trends, SKT plans to redefine the values pursued by AI and establish work guidelines by March. Specifically, internal standards that SKT members must comply with during the development and operation of AI technologies and services will be created.
To create a dedicated AI governance organization, SKT will operate a task force (TF) involving the company-wide AI technology and service organizations. The TF leader will be Jeong Jae-heon, head of external cooperation overseeing ESG (environment, social, governance), legal affairs, and CR, who will specify the organization and roles dedicated to AI governance.
Finally, SKT will establish an AI governance process to ensure that AI governance is applied to SKT’s management system and that diagnosis and improvement can form a virtuous cycle. To this end, an external advisory group from academia and industry will be formed to hear the voices of various external experts.
Jeong Jae-heon, head of external cooperation (President) at SKT, stated, "We will build AI governance so that the AI pyramid strategy, which innovates industry and daily life while securing AI based on trust and safety, can have strong execution power."
