Ulsan Institute of Health and Environment Reports 'Excellent' Safety of Distributed Livestock Products Last Year

A Total of 293 Inspections Conducted, Only 1 Case of Seasoned Meat Found Non-Compliant

Measures to Strengthen Livestock Product Safety Management Established This Year

Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 7th that the collection and inspection of livestock products distributed in the Ulsan area last year were generally found to be 'suitable.'

Last year's collection and inspection were conducted on a total of 293 cases, alongside hygiene checks on livestock products frequently consumed by citizens.

As a result of the inspection, one case of seasoned meat was judged 'unsuitable' and was immediately entered into the Integrated Food Safety Information Network, and notified to the relevant licensing (reporting) authorities and related organizations.

Ulsan City has prepared strengthened measures reflecting consumer trends for livestock product safety management this year.

First, to strengthen safety management of raw meat for consumption, environmental inspections of production facilities will be conducted alongside hygiene inspections in 2024 for companies with a history of non-compliance in 2023.

The targets of this environmental inspection include cutting boards, knives, aprons, etc., and the method uses a swab kit. The items tested are eight types of food poisoning bacteria.

Next, due to the diversification of consumption patterns and the influence of online media, safety management guidelines will be prepared for dry-aged meat, which has a high risk of microbial contamination.

Additionally, monitoring will be strengthened for the sale or use of raw materials past their expiration date, violations of preservation and distribution standards, and unsanitary handling and transportation.

An official from the Ulsan Health and Environment Research Institute said, “By continuously conducting safety inspections of processed livestock products last year, we contributed not only to securing safe food in the Ulsan area but also to the safe and pleasant distribution of livestock products,” adding, “We will strive to strengthen livestock product safety management reflecting consumer trends so that citizens can consume livestock products with peace of mind.”
