Pohang City Participates in 'CES 2024' and Visits the U.S. to Strengthen Innovation Capabilities in Emerging Industries for Global Advancement

Director of Job Economy Bureau and 20 Delegates Visit US Leading New Industry Cities

Pohang City will form a delegation to visit the United States from the 9th to the 12th to explore development plans for future new growth industries.

Pohang City Participates in 'CES 2024' and Visits the U.S. to Strengthen Innovation Capabilities in Emerging Industries for Global Advancement CES 2023, in which Pohang City participated last year.

The delegation is led by Kwon Hyuk-won, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, and mainly consists of employees from the new industry department, with about 20 participants including Kim Il-man, Vice Chairman of the Pohang City Council.


This visit aims to seek development plans linked to future new growth industries such as discovering joint projects in new industries and attracting investment to innovative companies, and to establish a system for exchange and cooperation with the U.S. The delegation will be minimized focusing on key related departments and will visit Las Vegas, Silicon Valley, Seattle, and other locations.


The delegation will first participate again this year in ‘CES 2024,’ the world’s largest IT and digital exhibition held in Las Vegas, U.S., to grasp global trends such as future technologies and advanced products.


This year at ‘CES 2024,’ Pohang City will operate the Pohang Pavilion and is the only local government participating in the ‘K-Startup Pavilion’ organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development. Additionally, Pohang regional companies will also participate in the ‘General Pavilion’ alongside POSCO and POSTECH pavilions, expanding opportunities to showcase innovative products leading the global market.


Besides participating in ‘CES 2024,’ the U.S. delegation plans to benchmark ‘Seattle,’ an advanced IT startup hub city, and ‘San Francisco,’ a world-renowned venture valley.


The delegation plans to identify cases for city administration application by visiting the ‘Sphere,’ a giant digital LED media art performance venue, the ‘Allen Institute for Brain Science’ in Seattle which is a brain knowledge platform and a new approach to disease treatment, the Seattle KSC Center (Korea Startup Center by the Small and Medium Business Corporation), the University of Washington, ‘Silicon Valley’ symbolizing technological innovation, global big tech company tours, Stanford University, and famous science museums.


Kwon Hyuk-won, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, said, “We expect that Pohang, which is emerging as a future core new industry hub city, will have an opportunity to further strengthen its internal and external competitiveness through this visit to the United States.”
