A National Transmission Education Center to Be Built on Land Donated by Holder Lee Young-hee in Seongnam

Research Project for Establishing This Year's Basic Plan
To Be Presented as a Building with Multifunctional Capabilities in 2029

The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 5th that it will build a National Transmission Education Center on land donated by Lee Young-hee, a holder of the national intangible heritage (Gayageum Sanjo and Byeongchang), located in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province.

The National Transmission Education Center is a space where the government and heritage holders jointly nurture successors of intangible heritage. In the Seoul metropolitan area, where 52% (3,952 people) of heritage holders reside, there is a severe shortage of spaces for transmission activities. Out of 165 centers nationwide, only twenty-five (15%) are located in this area. Although there is a National Transmission Education Center in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, it has long faced limitations due to overcrowding of resident heritage holders and insufficient space.

The Cultural Heritage Administration will solve this problem by constructing a National Transmission Education Center on the land donated by holder Lee Young-hee in 2022. This year, it will proceed with a research project to establish a basic plan, and around 2029, it will unveil a building with multifunctional capabilities.

A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "There has been a strong demand for the establishment of a new National Transmission Education Center in the metropolitan area, but it was difficult to proceed due to the high land prices in the area. With this meaningful donation resolving the issue, we will create a space where heritage holders can take pride and honor in inheriting intangible heritage."
