‘Master of the Short Game’... Exceptional Wedge and Putter Skills
Used Vokey SM9 and Prototype Lob Wedge Last Year
Equipped Vokey SM10 for New Year Opener at The Sentry
"Sweet Spot is Larger, and I Like the Shape"
World No. 15 Jordan Spieth (USA) is a master of short game and putting. He excels at handling wedges and putters.
Spieth attracted attention with his 'new weapon' at The Sentry, the opening event of the 2024 PGA Tour held on April 4 at the Plantation Course (par 73, 7,596 yards) in Kapalua, Hawaii. He appeared carrying a newly manufactured wedge. The product name is Titleist Vokey SM10, the successor to the SM9 from 2022.
Jordan Spieth attracted attention by using the unreleased Titleist Vokey SM10 wedges at the PGA Tour season opener, The Sentry.
Titleist conducted a tour seed and verification process for the SM10 wedge with players at this tournament. Participants included Spieth, 'PGA rising star' Kim Joo-hyung, Ludvig Aberg (Sweden), 2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Cameron Young, and J.T. Poston (all from the USA). Titleist did not disclose information about the SM10, including design, materials, finish, bounce options, and grind technology.
Last year, Spieth used a Vokey WedgeWorks prototype 60T lob wedge along with three Vokey SM9 wedges (46, 52, 56 degrees). For the new season, he put four Vokey SM10 wedges in his bag for evaluation. Notably, Spieth’s lob wedge is 60.5 degrees, a precise measurement for accurate distance control.

Spieth shared his impressions of using the new wedges, giving them a passing grade. "The biggest difference from the previous model is when making full shots with the gap wedge and pitching wedge. The sweet spot seems larger and has moved to a more optimal location. It feels like the over-hook has been eliminated. I think I can be more aggressive when targeting left pins." He also expressed satisfaction with the 60.5-degree lob wedge. "I like the shape. The 60.5-degree wedge, not a prototype, is special. It looks really good," he evaluated.
Spieth is a world-class golfer with 13 career PGA Tour wins, including three major championships. Leading with his incredible putting, he claimed the 2015 Masters and US Open, and the 2017 Open Championship. He reached three major wins by age 24 faster than 'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods (USA, 24 years and 6 months). Although not a long hitter, he dominates the tour with precise shots.
