Dobong-gu Implements Service for Issuing Old Land Registers Converted to Hangul

Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it will convert approximately 44,000 old land (forest land) registers into easy-to-read Hangul and implement the nation's first Hangul issuance service.

The old land (forest land) registers were handwritten by the Japanese colonial government based on the land survey records created in 1910 for the purpose of land seizure, and were used until 1975. They record land details (area, owner, etc.) and changes, making them widely used for tasks such as finding ancestral land and serving as evidence in land ownership disputes.

However, since difficult Chinese characters were handwritten and the records were noted in Japanese era names such as Meiji, Taisho, and Showa, users have had difficulty verifying the contents.

To resolve these issues, the district has fully converted the land information (lot number, land category, area, reason for land transfer) and owner information (owner's name, owner's address, reason for ownership change) registered in the old land (forest land) registers into Hangul and completed the database construction.

Furthermore, it succeeded in linking with the existing old land (forest land) register issuance system, enabling the provision of digitally Hangul-converted data to civil petitioners starting this year. Residents wishing to receive the issuance can apply by visiting the Real Estate Information Division at Dobong-gu Office.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “Through the Hangul conversion and digitization of the district’s land registers, we can provide high-quality civil services to residents,” adding, “We will continue to make greater efforts to deliver cadastral administrative services that satisfy our residents.”
