Naver Restructures News Division... CEO Choi Soo-yeon Personally Oversees

According to the IT industry on the 4th, Naver restructured its organization on the 1st, placing the news service division directly under CEO Choi. Previously, Vice President Yoo Bong-seok, who oversaw service operations, managed Naver services including news, but now CEO Choi will directly oversee it.

Naver is focusing on enhancing transparency in its news service ahead of the general elections in April this year. Since last month, it has begun preparations for the 'Naver News Service Innovation Preparation Forum,' composed mainly of 5 to 7 external experts. Through this forum, a comprehensive plan to improve news services, including strengthening algorithm fairness and responding to fake news, will be developed and announced within the first quarter.

Vice President Yoo was appointed to a newly created position as Head of Policy and RM (Risk Management). He will be responsible for departments related to public relations, government relations, legal affairs, and service operation risks, including the PR organization that was previously under CEO Choi. By consolidating departments with external contact points, he will focus on activities representing the company.

Meanwhile, Naver established the 'Future AI Center,' a global AI research and policy organization, in this reorganization. Operating directly under CEO Choi, this organization will research AI safety and lead responsible AI development. Ha Jung-woo, head of Naver Cloud AI Innovation Center, which formulates and oversees Naver’s AI strategy, was appointed as the leader. The center plans to research various technologies to enhance AI safety and establish AI ethics policies.
