Introduction and Operation of Rear Low-floor Cleaning Vehicles to Improve Working Conditions and Prevent Safety Accidents for Environmental Officers... Separate Environmental Officer Cabin Installed Between Driver's Seat and Waste Compartment... Safety Switch on Side and Safety Stop Bar at Rear Installed
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) is taking steps to create a safe working environment for environmental public officers.
The existing garbage trucks used for collecting recyclable waste had high footboards at the driver’s and passenger’s seats. As a result, environmental public officers, who frequently get on and off the trucks for cleaning, suffered injuries to their knees and lower backs and were also exposed to safety risks while hanging on the rear of the trucks during movement.
In response, the district has introduced two rear low-floor garbage trucks to prevent safety accidents and improve the working environment for environmental public officers, and these new vehicles will begin operation this year.
The newly introduced rear low-floor garbage trucks have a separate boarding area for environmental public officers between the driver’s seat and the waste loading compartment, allowing them to get on and off conveniently. Safety switches are installed on the sides of the vehicle, and a safety stop bar is installed at the rear to prevent entrapment accidents involving the officers.
Additionally, safety devices for drivers have also been prepared. An around-view monitoring system that provides a 360-degree three-dimensional view around the garbage truck has been installed, eliminating the driver’s blind spots and securing visibility.
Drivers can monitor the waste collection work around the vehicle and the driving situation in real time to prevent safety accidents. Environmental public officers can also minimize injuries during waste collection work.
Along with this, the district has actively responded to various safety risks such as falls by replacing four aging garbage trucks with new vehicles and additionally equipping existing vehicles with around-view monitoring and rear proximity sensors.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, "We have introduced new low-floor garbage trucks to improve the working environment and prevent safety accidents for environmental public officers who work hard to maintain a pleasant living environment in our area." He added, "Going forward, the district will continue to make various efforts to improve the working conditions of our staff and provide high-quality administrative services to residents."
