Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) explained on the 4th that regarding reports stating 'Street food representative fish-shaped pastry, sold at 4,000 won each in Myeongdong,' the fish-shaped pastries sold at street shops in Myeongdong come in various types, and the ones sold at 4,000 won each are confirmed to be specialized “fusion fish-shaped pastries Taiyaki” in Japanese or croissant style.
In the case of Taiyaki, prices in Gangnam or other areas range from 2,500 to 3,000 won each, and even for the same food item, prices may vary depending on manufacturing methods, weight, labor costs, and other factors, the district added.
In particular, for regular fish-shaped pastries, prices differ due to differences in raw materials; for example, at Namdaemun Market, 3 pieces are sold for 2,000 won, and at Yeouido, 3 pieces of glutinous rice fish-shaped pastries are sold for 4,000 won.
Jung-gu is encouraging street food vendors to provide detailed information on manufacturing methods and improve menu boards, and is continuously working to establish win-win measures such as recommending reasonable prices for food items.
Meanwhile, some department stores have attracted attention by selling fish-shaped pastries at 5,000 won each.
