It was revealed that online shopping transaction volume exceeded 20 trillion won last November. Following October, it surpassed 20 trillion won for two consecutive months, which is interpreted as demand for purchasing the lowest-priced products amid high inflation concentrating online.
Statistics Korea announced on the 3rd that online shopping transaction volume in November last year recorded 20.8422 trillion won, a 13.0% increase compared to the same month the previous year. The monthly online shopping transaction volume exceeded 20 trillion won for two consecutive months following October last year.
By product category, travel and transportation services increased by 28.3%, food and groceries by 12.9%, and clothing by 13.0%. Compared to the previous month, telecommunications devices (-37.2%) decreased, while home appliances and electronics (22.7%) and clothing (11.3%) increased.
Among all product categories, the largest share of transaction volume was food and groceries (12.3%), followed by clothing (10.8%) and food services (10.4%).
Among all online shopping, mobile shopping amounted to 15.2449 trillion won, an increase of 12.1% (1.6474 trillion won) compared to the same month last year. However, the proportion of mobile transactions in total transaction volume decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 73.1% compared to the same month last year.
The highest proportion of mobile shopping transaction volume was food services, recording 98.3%. Child and infant products (81.6%) and pet supplies (81.4%) also showed high proportions of mobile transactions.
The proportion of mobile shopping transaction volume increased in home appliances and electronics (5.9 percentage points) compared to the same month last year, but decreased in automobiles and automobile supplies (-11.7 percentage points) and e-coupon services (-8.0 percentage points).
