Fifth No. 1 with Album '1989'
Solo Artist's Longest 68 Weeks at No. 1 on Billboard
American pop star Taylor Swift has become the solo artist who has spent the longest time at number one on the Billboard main album chart, surpassing the "King of Rock and Roll" Elvis Presley. On the 1st (local time), Billboard announced that Swift's album '1989 (Taylor's Version)' recorded its fifth number one on the main album chart 'Billboard 200' dated the 6th of this month, bringing her total weeks at the top of the chart to 68.
This surpasses Elvis Presley's previous solo artist record of 67 weeks, set with 10 albums from 1956 to 2002. Swift and Presley also share the record for releasing the most number one albums in a single year, each having placed three albums at number one within one year. The longest number one record combining solo artists and groups is held by the legendary band The Beatles.
The Beatles held the number one spot on the main album chart for a total of 132 weeks with 19 albums from 1964 to 2001. Swift, who has been consistently active since releasing her first album in 2006, marked the beginning of her record-breaking run with her second studio album 'Fearless' in 2008, which stayed at number one for 11 weeks. All 13 of her studio albums released up to last year have reached the top of the Billboard 200.
Taylor Swift is a singer-songwriter who has established herself as a global pop star through steady activity over more than 20 years since her debut in 2006. Her ongoing tour since last year, 'Eras Tour,' has gained tremendous popularity in the United States, South America, and other regions. Each concert generates significant economic impact, leading to the coining of the term 'Swiftonomics.' The American news weekly 'Time' named Swift as the 'Person of the Year' in 2023.
