CXO Research Institute Investigates Stock Valuation of 40 Group Heads

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has maintained his position as the richest stockholder among domestic group heads. Over the past year, his stock value increased by more than 3 trillion won, reaching nearly 15 trillion won in stock valuation at the beginning of this year. The stock value of 40 domestic group heads was found to have increased by nearly 10 trillion won. Former EcoPro Chairman Lee Dong-chae's stock value rose by nearly 500%.


The Korea CXO Research Institute, a corporate analysis specialist, announced on the 3rd the results of a survey on the stock valuation of 40 group heads. The figures compared early January of last year to early January of this year.


The survey results showed that the stock valuation of 40 group heads was 48.7885 trillion won in early January last year. At the beginning of this year, it was 58.786 trillion won. It increased by 9.9975 trillion won (20.5%) over one year. The stock wealth of 25 heads increased, while 15 decreased.

Chairman Lee Jae-yong maintained his top position. His stock valuation rose from 11.5969 trillion won to 14.8673 trillion won, an increase of 3.2704 trillion won (28.2%) over one year.


The individual with the largest increase in stock valuation was former Chairman Lee Dong-chae. His stock value rose from 535.8 billion won to 3.1995 trillion won, a 497% increase. Chairman Cho Won-tae of Hanjin also nearly doubled from 138.5 billion won to 302.4 billion won. OCI Chairman Lee Woo-hyun increased by 45.3% (93.9 billion → 136.4 billion won), DB Founder Chairman Kim Joon-ki by 39.4% (353.3 billion → 492.5 billion won), and SeAH Chairman Lee Soon-hyung by 37.8% (140.2 billion → 193.1 billion won), all exceeding a 40% growth rate.


Among the 15 group heads whose stock value decreased, former Chairman Kim Ik-rae of Daou Kiwoom had the highest decline rate at -60.7%. Chairman Hong Seok-jo of BGF (-24.3%), Hyundai Department Store Chairman Chung Ji-sun (-20.5%), Shinsegae Chairman Lee Myung-hee (-20.4%), and former Chairman Lee Ho-jin of Taekwang (-16.6%) followed with high decline rates. Honorary Chairman Huh Chang-soo of GS (-14.2%), Lotte Chairman Shin Dong-bin (-14.1%), and Amorepacific Chairman Suh Kyung-bae (-11.7%) also saw decreases exceeding 10%.

Thirteen individuals joined the '1 trillion won club' in stock wealth, one more than the 12 at the beginning of last year. Chairman Lee Jae-yong ranked first, followed by Celltrion Chairman Seo Jung-jin (9.9475 trillion won) and Kakao Future Initiative Center Head Kim Beom-su (6.1186 trillion won) in the top three.


Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Eui-sun (3.7377 trillion won), former Chairman Lee Dong-chae (3.1995 trillion won), SK Chairman Chey Tae-won (2.3442 trillion won), Chairman Suh Kyung-bae (2.1506 trillion won), LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo (2.1282 trillion won), Krafton Chairman Jang Byung-gyu (1.3967 trillion won), and Naver GIO (Global Investment Officer) Lee Hae-jin (1.3945 trillion won) formed the top 10.


Among major shareholders outside the group heads, those with stock wealth exceeding 5 trillion won were all members of the Samsung family. These include former Leeum Museum Director Hong Ra-hee (8.2298 trillion won), Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin (6.8698 trillion won), and Samsung Welfare Foundation Chairperson Lee Seo-hyun (6.1619 trillion won).
