DB Insurance announced on the 2nd that it has launched the internet-exclusive DB Prenatal Insurance "DB Direct Child Insurance (Prenatal Plan)," which allows customers to select only the necessary coverage for the fetus and mother and sign up online.
This is the first time DB Insurance has launched an internet-exclusive prenatal insurance. The premiums are cheaper compared to DB Insurance's offline plans, but the coverage is practical, focusing on fetal protection (riders) preferred by elderly mothers or MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z) mothers, including low birth weight hospitalization expenses, low birth weight birth benefits, disability birth benefits, congenital anomaly surgery expenses, and congenital anomaly hospitalization expenses.
Most internet-exclusive prenatal insurances only allow enrollment in fetal protection (riders) within 22 weeks of pregnancy, but DB Prenatal Insurance allows enrollment even after 22 weeks of pregnancy. This is helpful for mothers who want to take their time to learn about prenatal insurance.
The reason DB Insurance is focusing on prenatal insurance is due to the recent increase in births with congenital anomalies. According to data from Statistics Korea and the National Health Insurance Service, the rate of congenital anomalies among newborns was 18.7% in 2013 but increased to 28.5% in 2022. More than one in four newborns was diagnosed with a congenital anomaly.
A DB Insurance official said, "The increase in births with congenital anomalies is partly influenced by late marriage and childbirth, and prenatal insurance must continue to develop to help avoid the risks of pregnancy and childbirth," adding, "We will continue to actively strive to develop various products for our customers."
