First Case in Dobong-gu, Result of Efforts to Revitalize Reconstruction and Redevelopment, a Key Pledge of the 8th Mayor Administration
The area around 724 Ssangmun-dong in Dobong-gu is being reborn as a residential complex with 320 households, featuring a waterfront resting space.
This is the result of a rapid redevelopment project carried out by Seoul City, Dobong-gu, and local residents working together as one team.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that on December 28, the Seoul Metropolitan Government Urban Planning Committee’s Rapid Integrated Planning Redevelopment Project Deliberation Subcommittee approved with modifications the “Redevelopment Project Maintenance Plan Decision and Maintenance Zone Designation (Draft) for the area around 724 Ssangmun-dong.” This is the first case in Dobong-gu where a redevelopment project zone has been designated through rapid integrated planning.
The area around 724 Ssangmun-dong was selected as a candidate site for rapid integrated planning in 2021, shortening the maintenance zone designation period from over 5 years to within 2 years. Mayor Oh Eon-seok stated, “This is significant as it fulfills the residents’ development aspirations for the area and is the fruit of efforts to revitalize Dobong-gu’s reconstruction and redevelopment projects, which is a pledge of the 8th elected administration.”
With the approval of this zone designation, up to 25 floors and a total of 320 households (including 67 rental housing units) will be supplied in the area around 724 Ssangmun-dong.
The one-way road on Nohae-ro 38-gil to the south will be developed into a park-like waterfront space connected to the Uicheon Stream, reflecting the local characteristics, and part of the artificial retaining wall along Uicheon Stream will be designed as a stepped resting area. To improve pedestrian convenience, the traffic system at the connection between Ssanghan Bridge and Uicheon-ro will be enhanced.
The zone name will be changed from “the area around 724 Ssangmun-dong” to “Ssangmun 3 District” to make it easier for residents to recognize and for administrative management.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, “With the approval of this maintenance plan decision (draft) by the Seoul City review, it is expected to bring new vitality to the area through the supply of high-quality housing,” and added, “We will continue to closely communicate with residents and actively consult with related departments to ensure that housing maintenance projects proceed quickly and smoothly, providing administrative support without hesitation.”
Meanwhile, the area around 685 Banghak-dong, selected as a candidate site for rapid integrated planning at the end of 2022, is also awaiting confirmation of rapid integrated planning, and various development projects such as the Urban Public Housing Complex Project and Moa Town are being actively promoted in Dobong-gu.
