District Mayor Lee's Day 1 "Energizing the Year of the Blue Dragon with Baebongsan Sunrise"... "May the energy of the Blue Dragon fulfill all residents' New Year wishes"
Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung is energetically shouting to wish the residents happiness in the new year at the 2024 Baebongsan Sunrise Event.
On the morning of the 1st, Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Ilhyung Lee marked the beginning of the Year of the Blue Dragon 2024 with his first schedule of the new year, attending the Baebongsan Sunrise Event followed by a visit to the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery.
Baebongsan, which is usually loved as a resting place for residents, was more crowded than usual from dawn as residents gathered to watch the first sunrise before the event began.
The district conducted safety inspections and snow removal work a day before the event to prevent accidents on the slippery mountain paths caused by heavy snowfall two days prior. On the day of the event, a “Blessed Rice Cake Soup Sharing Event” started at 6:30 a.m., offering warm rice cake soup along with heartfelt warmth to residents who visited Baebongsan.
Mayor Lee shared warm rice cake soup with the residents and exchanged New Year’s greetings. Residents enjoyed taking commemorative photos at the “2024 Year of the Blue Dragon Photo Zone” set up at the entrance of Baebongsan and participated in the “New Year Wish Tree” event, where they wrote their wishes for the year on paper and hung them on a tree.
The main sunrise event was held from 7:30 a.m. at the summit of Baebongsan. The event began with a powerful orchestral performance by the Im Suchan Brass Band to welcome the new year. This was followed by the New Year bell ringing ceremony, New Year greetings from Mayor Ilhyung Lee and other guests, and a hopeful popera performance by Atti Classic. The Baebongsan Sunrise Event concluded as everyone watched the first sunrise of 2024 together and made their wishes for the new year.
After attending the sunrise event, Mayor Lee proceeded to the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery in Dongjak-gu. Along with Seoul Mayor Seohun Oh and other district mayors, he paid tribute to the noble spirits of the patriots and veterans by laying flowers and offering incense at the Memorial Tower.
Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Ilhyung Lee said, “Receiving the energy of the Blue Dragon in the Year of Gapjin, I hope that all the New Year wishes of our residents will come true in 2024 and that it will be a happy year.” He added, “This year, together with the 340,000 residents, we will create smart changes so that Dongdaemun-gu can continue to transform into a pleasant and safe city, a city good for walking, and a city great for raising children.”
