The following is the '2024 Dongjak District Mayor's New Year's Address'

Dear residents of Dongjak District! The year of Gapjin (甲辰), the Blue Dragon, has dawned.

I wish that all your hopes and wishes come true this year.

2024 marks the halfway point of the 8th elected term and will be a year when policies driving change in Dongjak District, built on the foundation laid over the past year and a half, get on the right track.

First, Dongjak-style development that enhances the value of the city will be in full swing.

We will finalize and begin construction of the redevelopment plans for the leading areas of Dongjak-style development, including the north side of Sindaebangsamgeori Station and the area around Namseong Station. We will also steadily promote the landmark projects ‘Jangseungbaegi Healthcare Silver Town’ and ‘Noryangjin AI Robot Tech Town.’

We will advance new welfare programs unique to Dongjak District.

We will expand three Dongjak Kids Cafes and three Kiwoom Centers, improve the teacher-to-child ratio in daycare centers, and expand specialized programs. Customized healthcare equipment and various programs will be supported throughout all senior centers, and we will introduce the ‘Senior Happiness Call Taxi Project.’ Above all, we will sequentially introduce youth support policies, including the nation’s first ‘Dongjak-style youth jeonse rental housing’ supply.

We will create a pleasant and convenient living environment.

We will quickly resolve long-standing daily issues. We will push for the installation of an additional exit at Daerim Samgeori Station and for express trains to stop at Heukseok Station. We will promptly implement demand-centered transportation improvements such as expanding public parking lots, improve lighting in dark alleys, and remove inconvenient utility poles and street trees. In particular, we will deploy clean task forces in each neighborhood to establish a year-round, flawless cleaning system.

We will actively promote policies to revitalize the local economy.

We will build the first-ever ‘e-commerce platform’ in a local government to help small business owners reduce costs by clearing inventory. We will establish the ‘Dongjak Economic Revitalization Foundation’ to strengthen small business competitiveness and drive the local economy. Additionally, we will prepare a special credit guarantee system worth 100 billion KRW over four years for small business owners, providing 25 billion KRW in loans this year. Furthermore, we will issue Dongjak Love Gift Certificates worth 46 billion KRW to invigorate the economy.

We will create an education system unique to Dongjak to prepare for the future.

We will open the Dongjak English Maru Library and the district’s first children’s English playground, and promote the construction of a ‘Math and Science Experience Center.’ We will launch the Dongjak Scholarship Foundation to reduce tuition burdens and reorganize lifelong education courses into the ‘Dongjak Residents University’ so that residents can receive desired education anytime and anywhere. Meanwhile, we will coordinate with the Office of Education to ensure the smooth opening of Heukseok High School in 2026.

We will enable residents to enjoy abundant culture everywhere.

We will create a total of nine loess trails and continue to expand one performance hall per neighborhood, including the Bondong Performance Hall. We will complete the Daebang-dong Park Golf Course and build new badminton facilities such as the Hyeonchung Indoor Badminton Court to address shortages.

Above all, we will make Dongjak safe.

We will greatly expand CCTV and emergency bells in parks and implement the ‘Safe Number Issuance Project’ to prevent misuse of personal parking numbers. The ‘Daesimdo Rainwater Drainage Tunnel’ at Seongdae Market will begin construction this year, and we will support the prompt start of the ‘Isu-Gwacheon Complex Tunnel.’ We will open a Child Protection Center this year to ensure the safety of children without gaps.

In the new year of Gapjin 2024,

like the Blue Dragon, one of the Four Guardians protecting the east,

Dongjak District will firmly protect the residents around you.

Wishing everyone good health and much happiness in the new year.
