According to foreign media including Sputnik News, President Putin said in a televised speech broadcast on December 31 (local time), a day before the New Year, "We have proven that we can solve the most difficult problems and will never retreat." He added, "No force can divide us or make us forget the memory and faith of our ancestors."

President Putin also said, "I want to speak to the servicemen and everyone on the front lines of the fight for truth and justice," adding, "You are our heroes, our hearts are with you, and we are proud of you."

On this day, President Putin did not mention the war in Ukraine. Instead, it is interpreted that he called for military loyalty and national support to continue the war in Ukraine, which Russia refers to as a 'special military operation,' three months ahead of the presidential election. He submitted documents to the Central Election Commission on January 18 to register as a candidate for the presidential election, aiming for a fifth term in the March election next year.
