Passport Office and Godeok Annex Relocation... Providing More Convenient Administrative Services Closer to Residents... Operating Toy Library and Toy Repair Center to Reduce Parents' Economic and Childcare Burden
Kangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Su-hee) will begin operating the Godeok Annex (930 Dongnam-ro, Godeok-dong) from January 2, enhancing accessibility so that residents can use administrative services more conveniently.
The Godeok Annex is a 1- and 2-story building with a total floor area of 1,498.82㎡. On the first floor, there will be the Passport Division, Job Policy Division, unmanned civil service office, toy library, and a job cafe for people with disabilities. The second floor will house the Urban Landscape Division and the Toy Repair Center.
Following the organizational restructuring in January, the district plans to establish a new Passport Division by relocating the current passport civil service office, which is located on the first floor of the Kangdong-gu Council building in Seongnae-dong (55 Seongnae-ro), to the Godeok Annex. This will provide faster and more systematic passport issuance services closer to residents. The current passport civil service office will cease operations at 6 p.m. on December 29, 2023, and thereafter, passport applications and pickups should be made at the Passport Division in the Godeok Annex.
The Job Policy Division will also be relocated. Through this move, the district aims to create synergy for regional economic revitalization and job creation by linking with companies currently moving into the Godeok Biz Valley.
The Urban Landscape Division, currently located in the Seogyeong Building in Seongnae-dong, will move to improve coordination with the on-site inspection team (942 Dongnam-ro) located next to the Godeok Annex. This will not only enhance urban aesthetics but also strengthen efforts in landscape work, personnel, and safety management.
Considering the area's high population of infants and young children, the toy library and Kangdong-gu’s first Toy Repair Center will also open together. While improving accessibility for residents of the Godeok and Myeongil areas, the district expects to alleviate parents’ financial burdens in this era of high inflation by offering affordable toy rentals and free repairs for broken toys.
The toy library is available to any Kangdong-gu resident with preschool-aged children and offers rentals of toys, books, and childcare products for an annual fee of 20,000 KRW. Especially at the Godeok branch of the toy library located in the Godeok Annex, there are 160 types and 948 items of toys and childcare products designed to support the growth and development of young children, including tactile, role-playing, musical, puzzle toys, and childcare items.
The Toy Repair Center, which provides free repair services by diagnosing and selecting broken parts when residents bring in damaged toys, was piloted during the opening of the Re&Upcycle Plaza last August and received great feedback from residents. It will now officially begin operation for the first time in Kangdong-gu at the Godeok Annex.
The Job Cafe for people with disabilities will also be established, serving as a communication space to improve awareness of disabilities and a comfortable resting area for local residents.
Mayor Lee Su-hee of Kangdong-gu stated, “With the start of the new year 2024, we have begun operating the Godeok Annex to be closer to our residents.” She added, “We will continue to sincerely practice open administration, communicative administration, and field administration that approaches residents closely.”
