Personal Information Commission: "Key Achievements This Year Include Removal of Mandatory Password Changes on Portals"

The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 29th that it has actively innovated regulations in various personal information fields through the revised Personal Information Protection Act.

As a major achievement this year, the Commission selected the 'relaxation of mandatory password changes on portal sites, etc.,' which had been a source of inconvenience for the public.

Through this, the regulation requiring password changes at least once every six months was removed, alleviating the hassle that could occur when accessing online services. This was also selected as one of the 'Top 5 Best Regulatory Innovations for the Public' led by the Office for Government Policy Coordination.

The Commission also stated that it has established the basis for introducing the 'MyData' service, which allows companies or institutions holding personal information to transfer that information to other places as requested by the data subject. Additionally, setting new operational standards for mobile video information processing devices such as drones and autonomous vehicles was selected as another achievement of this year.
