Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a delivery ceremony for replacement rural bus vehicles at the Namheung Passenger Bus Garage, attended by about 20 people including County Governor Jang Chung-nam, Namheung Passenger CEO Jeong Jin-woo, and Namhae-gun Disabled Persons Association President Jang Hong-i.
Namhae-gun secured a budget of about 800 million KRW to support two eco-friendly electric low-floor buses (Hyundai Elec City) to Namheung Passenger in order to facilitate boarding and alighting for the elderly and disabled.
At the event held on the 28th, the Namhae-gun Disabled Persons Association participated and held a demonstration where wheelchair users boarded the low-floor bus.
Governor Jang Chung-nam said, “Public transportation conditions nationwide are not favorable, so local governments are making multifaceted efforts such as loss support and vehicle support. The low-floor buses delivered today are part of those efforts.” He added, “Watching the boarding demonstration today, it seems that consideration from passengers on board and effort from drivers are necessary when wheelchair users board and alight. I ask the drivers, who are at the forefront of residents’ mobility, not to think of this as just an extra task but to pay a little more attention to transportation-vulnerable people.”
Namheung Passenger, the only rural bus company in Namhae-gun, currently operates 20 rural buses and 5 public buses. Since March, Namhae-gun has implemented a ‘Rural Bus Single Fare System (1000 KRW bus)’ to reduce passenger burden.
