Chonnam National University Expands Overseas Dispatch to Foster Glocal Talent

Chonnam National University is expanding its efforts to cultivate glocal talents through overseas volunteer activities.

On the 28th, Chonnam National University announced that it had dispatched an overseas volunteer team consisting of nine students who were publicly recruited on the 27th to Laos.

They will stay in Phoudindeng Village, Vangvieng, Laos for one month until January 25 of the new year, engaging in various exchanges and volunteer activities such as renovating the local learning center facilities, providing language education in English and Hangul, and introducing Korean culture.

Under the slogan "A small start that changes the world, from development to solidarity," the volunteers will respect the lifestyles of the locals and experience living just like them.

Since establishing a relationship with the Phoudindeng Youth Center in Laos in 2012, Chonnam National University has continued volunteer activities in the context of international development cooperation nine times to date.

Yoo Sung-min, a third-year student in the Department of Physics Education and a volunteer member, said, "Even if life without a cellphone and the inconvenience of cooking over a fire are challenging, I will always keep smiling and shout 'Dizai Lai' (which means 'feeling good' in the local language) as I strive to understand the lives of the locals."

Meanwhile, through the "50,000 Travel" winter vacation program, Chonnam National University has dispatched 160 students to 11 Asian countries including Japan, China, Cambodia, and the United Arab Emirates, providing broad opportunities necessary for growth as glocal talents by engaging in activities for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and investigating the activities of the respective countries on site.
