SC Engineering Wins Order for Nexon Commercial Silicon Anode Material Factory Construction

Comprehensive engineering specialist SSC Engineering has once again secured an order related to silicon anode material production facilities, gaining recognition for its technological expertise in the field.

On the 28th, SSC Engineering announced that it had won the construction project for a silicon anode material production plant being promoted by Nexeon, a silicon anode material technology company headquartered in the UK, located in the national industrial complex in Gunsan, Jeonbuk. The contract amount for this project is withheld from disclosure due to business confidentiality reasons. The contract period is until October next year.

This contract was initially signed for architectural and civil engineering works, with plans to meet customer needs through prompt delivery. Subsequently, in line with the project schedule, an additional contract for the equipment sector is expected as early as the first quarter of next year. SSC Engineering, specializing in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, succeeded in continuous orders from Nexeon, following the detailed design service contract won in July to this main construction contract.

SSC Engineering has accumulated excellent references in the field of silicon anode material production facilities. In February, it also secured a project related to the construction of silicon anode material production facilities.

Silicon anode material is a next-generation battery material with about ten times higher capacity (battery capacity per unit weight or volume) than conventional graphite-based anode materials, offering significant potential for increased energy density. The advantages of silicon anode materials greatly contribute to extending electric vehicle driving range and reducing charging time, leading to growing demand. According to market research firm SNE Research, global demand for silicon anode materials is expected to surge nearly tenfold from 26,000 tons in 2024 to 222,000 tons in 2030.

Wang Dae-sik, Vice President of SSC Engineering and head of the EPC business, said, “It is meaningful to participate in Nexeon’s project, which possesses proprietary technology capable of mass-producing high-performance and cost-competitive silicon anode materials in a short period.”

He added, “In response to graphite export controls by China, the world’s largest graphite producer, the secondary battery industry is expanding the use of silicon anode materials, and demand for production facilities is expected to continue increasing. We will do our best to ensure the successful completion of this project to establish a solid position in the promising field of silicon anode material production facility construction.”
