LS Mtron, Agriculture and Livestock Renewable Energy MOU... "Goal to Establish Biogas Plant"

Dongseo Power Generation, Livestock Environment Management Institute, and Seongwoo Sign MOU
President Shin Jae-ho: "From Agricultural Machinery to Agricultural Paradigm Shift"

LS Mtron announced on the 28th that it signed a business agreement (MOU) for an agricultural and livestock renewable energy convergence project with Korea East-West Power, the Livestock Environment Management Agency, and Sungwoo at the LS Tower in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. The goal is to accelerate the biogas plant business and shift the company's business model from being centered on agricultural machinery to focusing on agriculture.

About 30 people attended the MOU signing ceremony, including Kim Young-moon, CEO of East-West Power; Moon Hong-gil, head of the Livestock Environment Management Agency; Lee Do-heon, CEO of Sungwoo; and Shin Jae-ho, CEO and President of LS Mtron.

The agreement includes ▲ development and infrastructure establishment, utilization, and dissemination of biogas plant business ▲ development of renewable energy business ▲ provision of know-how for biogas plant construction and operation, and support for plant operation ▲ establishment of concepts and policy development for future-type renewable energy convergence business models ▲ win-win cooperation for eco-friendly technology R&D and activation of rural renewable energy convergence projects.

At the beginning of this year, Koo Ja-eun, Chairman of LS Group, declared at the 'Vision 2030' announcement ceremony that the group would become a partner company leading CFE (Carbon Free Electricity) and future industries. In line with realizing the group’s vision, LS Mtron plans to build a biogas mega plant that produces renewable energy such as electricity, biogas, and green hydrogen from organic waste, as well as natural fertilizers like liquid fertilizer (liquid manure) and compost (fertilizer made from decomposed livestock manure).

The domestic biogas plant market using pig manure and food waste is estimated to be about 1.8 trillion KRW. Korea’s private biogas plants number fewer than 10, which is inferior compared to advanced countries. LS Mtron plans to establish a biogas production SPC (Special Purpose Company) with the MOU partner organizations to jointly respond to government policies and the development of the biogas plant industry.

CEO Shin said, "LS Mtron has started a paradigm shift from agricultural machinery business to agriculture," adding, "Through the Korean-style biogas plant business, I hope Korea can protect its future energy security like the energy self-sufficient villages in Europe."
