SK Hynix Establishes NAND R&D Organization in Silicon Valley, Targeting On-Device AI

SK Hynix has established a research and development (R&D) organization to strengthen its NAND competitiveness in Silicon Valley, USA.

According to industry sources on the 28th, SK Hynix recently created a NAND R&D organization called 'SK Hynix NAND Development America (SK HNA)' within its American subsidiary, SK Hynix America, through a recent organizational restructuring.

SK Hynix America, based in San Jose, California, the heart of Silicon Valley, had primarily focused on sales and marketing functions until now.

SK Hynix is understood to have established the R&D organization to focus on developing high-performance NAND aimed at the on-device artificial intelligence (AI) market, catering to the demands of local big tech companies. On-device AI requires high-performance NAND because AI functions must be implemented directly on the device without relying on server computations, which also significantly increases the amount of NAND installed per device.

Additionally, the company plans to develop SK HNA into a technology hub that secures local talent in the US and discovers future talent.
