Development of Seobu Truck Terminal Urban High-Tech Logistics Complex... Yangcheon-gu's Top 10 News of the Year Ranked 1st

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that the result of the ‘2023 Yangcheon-gu Top 10 News Selection Vote,’ conducted to hear residents’ opinions on the district’s achievements over the past year, ranked ‘Creation of a Public Sports Center in the Western Truck Terminal Urban High-tech Logistics Complex’ as number one.

The Yangcheon-gu Top 10 News was selected through an online survey of over 1,200 residents conducted from December 14 to 21, covering 24 candidates that included various policies, projects, and media highlights. Each participant selected five news items, gathering a total of about 5,700 votes.

Through this, a variety of policies were evenly represented in the Top 10 News, ranging from long-standing district projects such as reconstruction to community-oriented initiatives like overnight emergency childcare centers and barefoot clay trails.

The first-place policy, ‘Creation of a Large-scale Public Sports Center in the Western Truck Terminal Urban High-tech Logistics Complex,’ received a total of 452 votes (7.88%), making it the policy that resonated most with residents and attracted the greatest interest.

This is interpreted as reflecting residents’ high expectations for the blueprint of the Western Truck Terminal Urban High-tech Logistics Complex, which has been on track for seven years since being designated a pilot complex by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2016, and is set to transform into a state-of-the-art mixed-use complex combining residential, shopping, and logistics functions. In particular, the district signed a business agreement last October with Seobutend Co., Ltd. to build the Sinjeong Sports Center, equipped with a bowling alley, swimming pool, and indoor tennis courts, in the public contribution space. This is expected to greatly contribute to diversifying residents’ leisure activities and promoting health in the future.

The second place went to ‘Final Approval of Safety Inspections for Reconstruction of Old Apartments such as Mokdong Apartments and Sinwol Siyoung Apartments,’ which had been stalled (387 votes, 6.75%), and third place was ‘Proposal of an Improved Feasibility Study Method for the Mokdong Line and Other Light Rail Transit’ (367 votes, 6.40%). Both reflect residents’ aspirations for a new future-oriented city, including improving poor residential environments and expanding insufficient public transportation, as long-standing district projects. In particular, 13 complexes in Mokdong Apartments passed safety inspections and entered the maintenance planning stage, recognizing the district’s efforts and achievements in improving the safety inspection system.

In addition to major long-standing projects, community-oriented, resident-experienced projects also received strong support. Especially, the ‘Overnight Emergency Childcare Center Providing Year-round, Nighttime, and Late-night Specialized Care Services, the First of Its Kind in Seoul’s Autonomous Districts,’ which ranked fourth (345 votes, 6.01%), was analyzed to have received great response from residents as it creates a high-quality childcare environment where children can be safely entrusted at any time. The ‘Barefoot Clay Trail Creation’ (290 votes, 5.05%) ranked fifth, reflecting the active incorporation of local voices requesting expansion of the clay trail section around Anyangcheon Stream. Following closely was the ‘Omok Park Renovation Featuring a Public Walkway,’ which returned as a complex cultural space in the city center after refurbishment, ranking sixth (285 votes, 4.97%).

Seventh place was ‘Integrated Development of Mokdong Sports Complex and Retention Basin’ (274 votes, 4.77%). The district proposed to Seoul City an integrated plan including the retention basin for this area, where development had been slow for over ten years, and it was selected as a new growth hub project in the southwestern region this year, receiving much support.

Other rankings included eighth place, ‘Relocation and Expansion of Seoul’s Largest Urban Integrated Control Center Combining Smart Technology and Integrated Control’ (265 votes, 4.62%), ninth place, ‘Yangcheon Marathon with 4,600 Participants after 8 Years’ (255 votes, 4.44%), and tenth place, ‘Creating Safe School Routes by Repairing Old Security Lights Around Schools’ (246 votes, 4.29%).

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “The Top 10 News reflects policies that Yangcheon residents feel and the desired direction of district administration.” He added, “Next year, we will continue to listen to residents’ voices and do our best to implement policies that realize a livable and desirable Yangcheon.”
