Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) Department of Counseling Clinical Psychology (Department Head Kim Kyung-mi) will take charge of operating the Busan Jung-gu Mental Health Welfare Center.
The period for operating the center under consignment is five years, from January 1, next year to December 31, 2028. Jung-gu, Busan, selected Dongmyung University as the final entrusted institution through a consignment review process and signed an agreement on the 27th.
The signing ceremony was attended by Choi Jin-bong, Mayor of Jung-gu; Heo Mi-sun, Director of Jung-gu Public Health Center; Cho Seung-gu, Vice President of Dongmyung University; Kim Mi-hyun, Dean of the College of Health and Welfare Education; and Professor Choi Sung-jin of the Department of Counseling Clinical Psychology, who serves as the director of the Jung-gu Mental Health Welfare Center.
Mayor Choi Jin-bong of Jung-gu said, “I hope various projects between local governments and universities regarding mental health issues will be activated.”
Vice President Cho Seung-gu emphasized, “Dongmyung University will play an important hub role in education and counseling on mental illnesses in the local community.”
Dean Kim Mi-hyun of the College of Health and Welfare Education expressed hope that “the Jung-gu Mental Health Welfare Center will strive to improve citizens’ mental health through mental health counseling education, awareness improvement, suicide prevention, and life respect promotion projects.”
Professor Choi Sung-jin said, “We will do our best to improve the mental health of local residents by leveraging the university’s expertise.”
The Department of Counseling Psychology at Dongmyung University will change its name to the Department of Counseling Clinical Psychology starting in 2024, aiming to produce experts not only in counseling but also in clinical psychology, meeting the social demand for counseling and clinical psychology required in various fields.
They plan to operate a combined bachelor’s and master’s program that allows students to obtain both degrees within five years, fostering talent aligned with practical social changes and technological innovation.
With this consignment, the Department of Counseling Clinical Psychology expects that student clinical practice and training in mental health will be more actively conducted.
Dongmyung University Department of Counseling Clinical Psychology and Busanjunggu Mental Health Welfare Center have signed an agreement.
