Kakao's DaumCIC announced on the 27th that it will revamp the mobile Daum news service to enhance user choice and strengthen editorial rights of news organizations.
Daum has moved the 'Media' tab, where users can view the editorial pages of subscribed news organizations, to the mobile home screen. Users can now see news directly edited by their preferred news organizations at the very top of the portal's home screen.
For users exploring news organizations to subscribe to, a subscription helper area has also been prepared. By selecting topics of interest such as specialized news by category, local news, or economic issues, users receive personalized news organization recommendations, allowing them to easily check the news they want.
In the 'News' tab, a 'Top News' arrangement method has been added so users can grasp important issues they must know at a glance. It shows real-time major issues based on news frequently covered by news organizations by time slot. This expands user choice in addition to the existing three news arrangement methods: latest order, personalized order, and deep reading order.
Along with this, the 'Daum News Arrangement Guide 2.0,' which explains the 'Top News' arrangement algorithm in an easy-to-understand way, has also been updated. Last year, Daum introduced three news arrangement methods and was the first in the industry to release a news arrangement guide.
To improve news usability, the UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) of each tab have also been enhanced. With the newly introduced 'Page Flip' feature, users can view various news articles by touching the previous and next buttons.
Im Kwang-wook, Head of Media Business at DaumCIC, said, "With this revamp, we expect users to consume desired news content more easily," adding, "We will continue efforts to enable active communication between users and news organizations by maintaining the policy of strengthening editorial rights such as user choice and outlink selection."
Meanwhile, Daum plans to revamp the PC web version in the first half of next year. On the PC web, it will provide users with various arrangement options such as Top News, Latest News, Deep Reading News, and Personalized News, and offer diverse news content including in-depth investigations and ranking news.
