Kim Hong-il, nominee for Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, stated on the 27th, "I will create a free and fair media ecosystem that meets global standards."
At the confirmation hearing held by the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee on the same day, Kim said, "We will completely reform outdated regulations that hinder industrial growth and establish a regulatory framework suitable for the digital and media convergence environment."
Kim judged that it is time to devise new measures to protect users alongside industrial growth amid fierce global competition in the broadcasting, telecommunications, and media sectors.
He emphasized, "Together with related ministries, we will establish future strategies for broadcasting, telecommunications, and media, and create a media ecosystem where anyone can freely operate in a fair environment."
He also said, "To contribute to national unity, we will support the accumulation of social trust capital through the restoration of media fairness," adding, "We will support businesses to voluntarily fulfill their social responsibilities and, at the same time, prepare improvements to laws and systems."
Kim pledged, "We will monitor to ensure that users' rights are not violated or inconvenienced, and strive to enable everyone to enjoy new and diverse services without discrimination."
Finally, he said, "Based on the various experiences I have accumulated as a legal professional and public official, I will address delayed issues and promptly stabilize the Korea Communications Commission organization."
